Top Locations for an engagement session in Dallas
Are you recently engaged and searching for the perfect spot for your engagement photos? The Dallas area is full of dreamy and fun locations to fit any style or vibe- and that’s what I love about the city. I’ve compiled a list of my favorite locations to shoot at in order to help you with the selection process. Whether you envision a gorgeous, natural setting or prefer a more urban backdrop, I’ve got you covered!
White Rock Lake- Dallas, Texas
White Rock Lake is a nice mix of city meets nature and is situated conveniently in the heart of Dallas proper. Beautiful rolling hills of grass and a nice view of sailboats on the lake from many docks give you several options for your session. Plus there are a few trails that we can explore together! This area is both romantic and playful, and is a favorite amongst my clients.

Deep Ellum- Dallas, Texas
Deep Ellum is one of my favorite neighborhoods to explore in the city. Every time you turn a corner, you’ll find beautiful murals spread across every building exterior. It’s fun, bright and colorful and is the perfect location for a couple who wants their engagement photos to pop. Plus, there are a bunch of cute eateries and coffee shops in the area, not to mention the oh so delicious Pecan Lodge Barbecue. Maybe we could stop at Emporium Pies and grab a sweet slice while we roam.
Permit required? No, but do expect to pay for parking.
Cedar Hill State Park & Penn Farm- Cedar Hill, Texas
Cedar Hill State Park is a gem located about 25 minutes from downtown Dallas. It’s a great spot for couples looking to capture the quintessential Texas spirit, with open fields sprawling with Texas Bluebonnets in the Spring, multiple trails, and a cute beach. Plus, it’s the home of Penn Farm, a preserved homestead that stands as a quiet reminder of Texas’ past. If you’re looking for a rustic feel, this is the perfect spot for you!
Permit required? No, but a park entry fee is required.
Rockledge Park- Grapevine, Texas
We’re not in Texas anymore! Rockledge Park is a unique spot off of Lake Grapevine that is well known for it’s beautiful white cliffs and red clay rock faces. A short ten minute hike takes you to some breathtaking views and interesting spots that you cannot find anywhere else in the Dallas area. The sunsets here are absolutely breathtaking.
Permit required? Yes, permits are $50 per hour and can be reserved online in advance.
West End- Dallas, Texas
West End is not typically the most popular spot for engagement photos, but if you’re looking for something different and funky, this could be the spot for you. And, if you want to capture the REAL Dallas, there’s no better place. You’ll get some awesome skyline views and perfectly gritty yet romantic images to hang in your home.
Permit required? No, but expect to pay for parking.
Elmer Oliver Park- Mansfield, Texas
This is in my hometown so I may be pretty partial, but Elmer Oliver State Park is an absolutely beautiful, hidden gem in the Dallas area. There are easy hiking trails that lead you to wide, open fields of prairie grass, and large tunnels of trees. Plus, there are tons of native plants that are well cultivated throughout the park. I love shooting sunrise sessions here when the tops of the treelines practically glow!

Lifestyle Session
Many people overlook one of the most unique and precious locations for their engagement sessions: their home! Getting cozy with your partner and a cup of coffee (or box of donuts) is an amazing way to celebrate and capture your love. The best homes for this type of engagement session should have a large number of wide windows for easy access to natural light and should be as clutter free as possible.

They’re all completely different and yet beautiful spots to hang out with your loved one and capture some memories. No matter what location you choose, your engagement photos are sure to be gorgeous!
